Reciprocal House features in Metalocus -
In the Hampstead area, an affluent residential community in the City of London, in a discreetly hidden laneway, Gianni Botsford Architects replaces an 1860s cottage with their Reciprocal House project, while renovating the exemplary extension carried out by Foster Associates (now Foster + Partners) in 1969.
The house, which responds to a sensitive but neglected context, arises from the decision to complement the single-storey structure developed by Foster Associates using steel trusses, concrete blocks and large glazing. The new project retains the industrial character and establishes a dialogue between the program, its form, and the volumes of the new and old elements, making the different parts complement each other and feel closely connected to each other and their surrounding landscape.
